13830, Carlingford – Water Leak
This is a pretty typical water leak caused by a tree root. As you can see from the photo, the root has pretty much consumed the pipe and has bent it causing it to crack. The pipe continues on through the base of the tree and pops out on the other side and then services a garden tap.
It certainly would have been possible to hack out the roots and put a slip coupling in place of the cracked section of pipe, but the root would have regrown and broken the pipe again.
In this instance it was best to reroute the water pipe away from the base of the tree. It required a little bit more time and a little bit more copper, but it was worth it to make sure the job was done right.
